I have always loved history. Especially during the period when our country was in its infancy. I have always been amazed at just how brilliant our forefathers were and the insight they had. The following quotes are from Thomas Jefferson. I am amazed at how relevant they are today.
When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe. Thomas Jefferson
The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not. Thomas Jefferson
It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world. Thomas Jefferson
I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.
Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson
My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government. Thomas Jefferson
To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical. Thomas Jefferson
And in 1802 Thomas Jefferson said: I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homelss on the continent their fathers conquered.
All I can say is that this was one smart man.
Have a great weekend all and happy treasure hunting. I have a few yard sales that I am eyeing this weekend!

Boy...you are not kidding! Wise beyond wise when it came to leading the country I know he loved....
ReplyDeleteToooooo bad our leaders of today (and a-hem... and YESTERDAY)don't take his knowledge and run with it. Despite the fact we live in the greatest nation of the world, America is MESSED UP! Most of it is by doing or not doing EXACTLY what Jefferson said...
GREAT POST! Love it!

Hello WORLD!!pay attention to eloquently spoken words from a VERY WISE MAN!!
ReplyDeletePerfect post for present day issues/problems with this country's leadership.
TY for sharing, powerful post. TTFN ~Marydon
I can't say I share you love of history as in school taught but I love the quotes you dug up. I think the country needs a serious tendering the documents of ole. Our constitution was not meant to be toyed with as well as our bill of rights. It sickens me to no end how politicians think they can twist it around to serve their own purpose. I trust neither party to be quite honest. I've long thought the round table might serve us better.
ReplyDeleteLove the post.
Ohhh, I loved this post!!! My oldest brother once helped write and edit 'The Real Thomas Jefferson'---great book! And my other brother absolutely loves the T.J. book by David McCullough. Thanks for sharing!
